Blackbird Blackbird - Swimming

A friend once asked me, “Does Chillwave even exist?” My answer was simply, “Have you heard of Blackbird Blackbird?” Mikey Maramag, hands down one of the hardest working people in music, has curated a nice little name for himself under the alias. From the start (see: Bye Bye Blackbird) Maramag has been producing warm weather jamz at an incredible and some would say unsafe rate. With that being said in recent production Maramag has been experimenting with new sounds that are a far cry from his humble synth heavy beginnings. Take for instance “Swimming” although the moniker screams ‘CHILLWAVING,’ the sound resembles something completely different and that’s not a bad thing. “Swimming” starts with the heavy beat of tribal drums and quickly transform into a ethereal sound progression that showcases Blackbird Blackbird’s ability to construct emotionally involving tunes that give the listener a sense of home and all that it may connotate.
