Nakagin - Elsewhere feat. Marcus Whale

Nakagin creates something reminiscent of crude trip-hop on this tune. It can out back in July, but it’s timeless. The vocals are beautifully atonal at times, and they clash with the deep dissonant chords in the rhythm. It’s at first a little unsettling, but the rest of the tune is just as awkwardly constructed. It’s a dragging beat, but somehow all parts mesh into something I’ve had on repeat for a few days now.

One of our very own, Jonathan Abramson, who makes music under the moniker Between You And Me, already has an EP tucked under his belt. He’s a different face on the experimental electronic scene, providing more of a classical approach to electronic composition. Currently working on his 2012 LP, he will join forces with soul and jazz vocalist Krystal Hardwick for a few tunes. The result is something we’re going to call retro-futuristic soul… whatever that means.

The beat in this is tune is just so fantastic. The snare hits chop it up nicely and the simple vocal line flutters over the somewhat brash high hat. It’s a great dichotomy between the aggressive and the calm.

The trouble with genre’s comes when defining a certain song or sound and labeling it causes us to look past what actually matters, the music. In the case of iamfuzzybear, I’m not sure what to classify the young lad as other than roll worthy, and honestly, I don’t think genre classification would serve em’ well. “Reckless,” a soothing albeit articulate little piece shimmers in the afterglow of the chilly winter sun. It’s almost lethargic in it’s pace but you know what, during the winter, that’s the speed in which most of us are at. So sit back, relax and let this one wash over you. When we last heard from NUDITY they were making heavy handed jams, with bracing abandoned and while that was gorgeous in it’s own right; the poptimistic duo seem to have shifted from this past modus. Now with increased emphasis on vocals and ballad-esque guitar work, “BLAME WALTZ” finds itself both brooding and hauntingly intimate. Regardless, it’s a beautiful, heartbreaking song.
